Drawing as an Instruction, Instruction as a Drawing, was a two day workshop for BA and MA Fine Art students at Sheffield Hallam University. The workshop explored drawing through artistic practices that are not always associated with the concept of drawing. Together the students worked through a series of ‘drawing’ exercises using performance, sound, listening, sculpture, collage and writing to produce a number of drawings. The students also created their own instructions, through drawing and text, which were used to create new drawings, performances and choreography. At the end of the workshop the students learnt how to digitise their drawings, using illustrator and photoshop. Once digitised the students were shown how these digital drawings could be used to create instructions for fabrication, using methods such as laser cutting and CNC machining.
